2022 SSFA Scholarship Award Ceremony

At the 2022 award ceremony held at Turf Valley Resort in Ellicott City on November 26, 31 students — 27 undergraduate/graduate and 4 high school students — received a total of $35,500 in scholarships.

The $3,000 grand prize went to Ara Ko (Maryland Institute College of Art), and $2,000 prizes were awarded to Minsu Kang (George Washington University), Nayoung Kim (University of Maryland, College Park), Daeun Lee (Northwestern University), and Jihyun Lim (Georgetown University). The ceremony was facilitated by Eunjung Ko.

President John Hwang encouraged the recipients: "Make a challenge with the dream and vision to create a better world, and live a life that gives back to the community." Chairman Albert Kim noted that since 1997 — across 25 years — the foundation has awarded $618,000 to 641 students.

Maryland First Lady Yumi Hogan gave the opening speech, urging students to "Keep the pride as Korean Americans, and continue your identity." Governor's citations were presented to Yongyun Ji, Kyunghyun Yun, Jonghun Kim, and Geumdal Park, and an appreciation plaque was presented to Mrs. Hogan. Both President Hwang and Mrs. Hogan received the John Olszewski Executive commendation.

Selection remarks were given by Professor Yongyun Ji (Towson University, Department of Business), and award remarks by grand prize winner Ara Ko.
