2018 SSFA Speech Contest

High school speech contest on the Korean-American experience. Finals held October 20 at Miller Branch Library, Ellicott City. Prizes: $750 / $500 / $250.

2018 SSFA Speech Contest finals

The 2018 SSFA Speech Contest for high school students successfully concluded on October 20, 2018 at the Miller Branch Library (9421 Frederick Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21042).

Speech topic: "What challenges have you faced as a Korean-American? How have these experiences affected the way you view and interact with both cultures?"

Format
  • Length: no less than 4 minutes, no more than 5 minutes.
  • Delivery: reference cards allowed; memorization encouraged; no reading.
Scoring Criteria
  • Opening: dynamic and commanding
  • Content: clear theme with supporting examples
  • Organization: premise, content, conclusion
  • Delivery: entertaining, enlightening, effective English
  • Overall reaction: poise, effectiveness, impact
Prizes
  • 1st place: $750
  • 2nd place: $500
  • 3rd place: $250
  • Selected contestants also received $50 gift cards
