2018 SSFA Speech Contest
High school speech contest on the Korean-American experience. Finals held October 20 at Miller Branch Library, Ellicott City. Prizes: $750 / $500 / $250.
The 2018 SSFA Speech Contest for high school students successfully concluded on October 20, 2018 at the Miller Branch Library (9421 Frederick Rd, Ellicott City, MD 21042).
Speech topic: "What challenges have you faced as a Korean-American? How have these experiences affected the way you view and interact with both cultures?"
Format
- Length: no less than 4 minutes, no more than 5 minutes.
- Delivery: reference cards allowed; memorization encouraged; no reading.
Scoring Criteria
- Opening: dynamic and commanding
- Content: clear theme with supporting examples
- Organization: premise, content, conclusion
- Delivery: entertaining, enlightening, effective English
- Overall reaction: poise, effectiveness, impact
Prizes
- 1st place: $750
- 2nd place: $500
- 3rd place: $250
